Urea Transporters

Transmembrane carrier proteins responsible for urea movement across the cell membrane. Urea transporters are divided into renal tubular/testicular type (urea transporter 2 consisting of (UT) A1 to A5, encoded by SLC14A2 gene) and erythrocyte type (urea transporter 2 or UT-B1 encoded by the SLC14A1 gene). In humans mutations on the SLC14A1 gene determines KIDD BLOOD-GROUP SYSTEM.

Abstract

Transmembrane carrier proteins responsible for urea movement across the cell membrane. Urea transporters are divided into renal tubular/testicular type (urea transporter 2 consisting of (UT) A1 to A5, encoded by SLC14A2 gene) and erythrocyte type (urea transporter 2 or UT-B1 encoded by the SLC14A1 gene). In humans mutations on the SLC14A1 gene determines KIDD BLOOD-GROUP SYSTEM.
