Structured Summary
Abstract
Glucuronosyltransferase encoded by UGT1 complex which encodes human bilirubin, phenol, and other UDP-glucuronosyltransferase isozymes with identical carboxyl termini. It catalyzes reactions where lipophilic substrates are conjugated with glucuronic acid to increase the metabolite's water solubility and excretion into either urine or bile. UGT1A1enzyme is essential for elimination and detoxification of drugs, xenobiotics and metabolites.
